A recent New York Post article shows a shocking AI-generated model of what humans could look like in 25 years, and it’s not pretty. The hunched back, rounded shoulders, and downward-tilted head may be somewhat exaggerated, but not entirely far from reality.

Our Screen Habits Are Bending More Than Just Time

The Rise of “Scroll-iosis”.

We spend hours each day bent over our phones, laptops, and tablets. This forward-leaning position puts the neck and upper spine under constant strain, sometimes as much as 60 pounds of pressure, when the head tilts forward. Over time, that can lead to chronic tension, headaches, back pain, and postural changes that mimic or worsen scoliosis.

A Society Sitting Still

Along with screen time comes another problem: inactivity. Sitting for long stretches weakens the core and back muscles that help support proper alignment. Combine that with the repetitive “tech neck” position, and it’s no wonder we’re seeing more young adults and even teens presenting with back pain once considered uncommon at their age.

Posture and Scoliosis: More Connected Than You Think

While scoliosis is a structural spinal curvature, poor posture can both hide and aggravate it. Many patients don’t realize their curve is progressing until pain, fatigue, or visible asymmetry appear, often triggered or worsened by daily posture habits.

What You Can Do

✅ Take screen breaks every 20–30 minutes and look up at the ceiling for 30 seconds

✅ Roll up a towel the size of a shampoo bottle, lie on the floor, and place it behind your neck for 10-15 minutes
✅ Keep your devices at eye level to reduce neck strain
✅ Strengthen your core and back through stretching or guided exercise
✅ Pay attention to signs of uneven posture or pain — early intervention matters
